Shawnee girl recovering after accidental shooting

— SHAWNEE (AP) — Authorities say a Pottawatomie County girl is recovering after she was accidentally shot by her older brother.

Sheriff Mike Booth said the incident happened Wednesday night. The News-Star reported that the siblings were apparently playing with a small-caliber pistol when it fired, striking the 11-year-old girl.

The sheriff said the brother, 12, called 911 and was applying pressure to the wound when emergency responders arrived.

Booth said the girl was shot in the abdomen and was in stable condition at an Oklahoma City hospital.

The children's parents were driving home from work at the time of the shooting, he said.

The shooting appeared to be accidental, but the district attorney's office will review the case, Booth said.
