WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) — Woodward County prosecutors have charged a man with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his friend.
Richard Wayne Conway is accused of shooting Cheryl Roberts in the head while she was visiting him at his home Nov. 3. Roberts died the next day.
Police Lt. Chuck Wheeler says Conway previously told detectives the he and Roberts were drinking in his garage when he went inside for another drink. Wheeler says Conway told them he heard a gunshot and found that Roberts had shot herself with his gun.
Wheeler alleged that Conway admitted during an interview Monday that he shot Roberts after the pair argued about money.
Conway remained in custody Wednesday on $1 million bond. A jailer said he didn't know if Conway had an attorney.
