STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — A union representing non-uniformed city employees in Stillwater is calling an effort to recall Mayor Nathan Bates a "colossal waste."
Spokesman David Ratcliff for the Communication Workers of America says the employees believe the recall effort is counterproductive and will hurt progress.
A recall petition against Bates was certified as valid on Dec. 14 — giving Bates 10 days to file a written response. The response would be placed on another petition to ask for a recall election and about 600 people would have to sign that petition for the election to take place.
Allegations against Bates include corruption and public intoxication.
Bates denies the allegations and says he has no intention to resign.
