TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A former Department of Human Services employee who pleaded guilty to charges that she converted to her own use more than $10,000 from accounts of two mentally disabled elderly men has been given a three-year suspended sentence.
Fifty-one-year-old Debra Roberts of Chelsea was sentenced Monday by District Judge Kurt Glassco after he pronounced her guilty of two felony counts of financially exploiting vulnerable adults. On Oct. 5, she had entered the guilty pleas and waived her right to a trial.
A former DHS Adult Protective Services specialist, Roberts was accused of taking the money from two men, 84 and 74, for whom she had been appointed temporary guardian. She has a similar charge pending in Rogers County.
Roberts' attorney Jack Gordon said his client had paid restitution to the victims.
