Langston president discusses campus safety plan
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Langston University's president says a shooting on her campus in August is evidence that such incidents can happen any place at any time.
President JoAnn Haysbert discussed how her campus responded to the shooting during a meeting Thursday of the governor's Campus Life and Safety and Security Task Force.
She says that in the days after the Aug. 16 shooting that left five non-students wounded, Langston leaders developed a two-phase safety plan.
The first phase was implemented within 30 days and included securing campus entrances, installing cameras, making some buildings card-accessible and placing a moratorium on all campus social events.
She says Langston also hopes to install emergency phones, increase lighting and add a security access system in some campus housing areas.
