Lawton voters select businessman as mayor

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Voters in Lawton have elected businessman Fred Fitch as the city's new mayor.

Fitch received more than 80 percent of the vote to defeat Steve Russak in Tuesday's election.

In other elections — Cotton County voters rejected a liquor-by-the drink proposal by a 2-to-1 margin. The county remains one of 27 in which individual drinks are not allowed to be sold — such as in a restaurant or bar.

Voters in Rogers County agreed to extend a sales tax to pay for a new courthouse and 911 center while those in Love County agreed to a fee on landline phones to pay for enhanced 911 service. And voters approved bond issues for construction and transportation projects in the Broken Arrow, Jenks, Kiefer, Norman, Newcastle, Latta and Middleburg school districts.
