MANGUM, Okla. (AP) — Investigators say an off-duty Mangum police officer who allegedly wounded his brother-in-law in a shooting at a relative's home was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says 37-year-old officer Brian Ditmore is believed to have shot his brother-in-law, 41-year-old Fred Willis, during the disturbance Thursday night in Mangum.
Brown says authorities later entered the home and found Ditmore dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. The state medical examiner's office will make an official ruling on the death.
Brown says Willis was taken to an Altus hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
