Outgoing tribal chief avoids office during protest

CONCHO, Okla. (AP) — The outgoing governor of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes is avoiding the tribal headquarters as protesters try and keep him out.



Darrll Flyingman's final day as tribal governor is Jan. 2. Flyingman's opponents already have changed the locks to the governor's office, saying they don't want him to harm the tribe during his final weeks in office.



About two dozen people showed up Thursday to keep Flyingman from entering the tribal offices. Flyingman says law enforcement officials told him if he went to the offices, he could be arrested for inciting a riot.



Pat Ragsdale, the deputy director for the Office of Justice Services with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, says the governor wouldn't be arrested for going to work.



Dozens of BIA officers also were at tribal headquarters Thursday to keep the peace.
