NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — A Cleveland County deputy is recovering at home after being stabbed while in court by a man who cut his own throat after his probation was revoked.
The man is hospitalized in critical condition following the altercation in Cleveland County District Court.
Deputy Steve Lucas says he was cut on his right arm and left hand as he struggled with 43-year-old Troy Leal. Lucas says Leal had pulled an X-Acto knife from his pocket after his probation was revoked and he was sentenced to six years in prison.
Judge William Hetherington says Leal was in court for downloading child pornography and lying to his probation officer. Leal has previous convictions for sodomy in Stillwater and making lewd or indecent proposals to a child in Norman.
