TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Tulsa Housing Authority is preparing to close a long waiting list for a program that helps low-income people pay for housing.
Applications will be accepted through Friday on the waiting list for Section 8 vouchers.
There are more than 7,000 families on the list. The program is at capacity with more than 4,500 vouchers issued.
Housing authority officials say the wait for a voucher is now more than two years and it's irresponsible to keep adding people to the list.
Under the program, the housing authority pays a portion of the rent for low-income people living in privately owned rental housing. The authority's public housing waiting list will remain open.
