Swine flu deaths rise

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma health officials say at least 18 people have now died of complications from swine flu.

According to the Oklahoma State Health Department's weekly update on H1N1 activity released Thursday, six influenza-associated deaths were reported between Oct. 18 and Oct. 24.

Seventeen deaths have been attributed to swine flu since Sept. 1, and one death was reported in June.

The update says 10 of the 17 people who died had histories of underlying medical conditions that increased their risk of illness. Those conditions included asthma, diabetes and obesity.

According to the update, six of the deaths were children under 19, including an infant less than six months old.

The site says Oklahoma County has had five deaths, and Tulsa County has seen four.
