Lawmaker to study "sexting" legislation

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A study planned by an Oklahoma lawmaker will explore the practice of "sexting" sexually explicit pictures and messages over cell phones.

Rep. Anastasia Pittman of Oklahoma City will convene the study Thursday in the chamber of the Oklahoma House.

The practice has led to child pornography charges against teens in several states. Earlier this year, three Pennsylvania high school girls who sent seminude photos and four male students who received them were all hit with child pornography charges.

Pittman says she knows of no charges in Oklahoma. She says her study is a pro-active effort to prevent the practice.

Among issues officials will explore are the long-term consequences of filing a felony charge against a minor and requiring them to register as a sex offender.
