VINITA, Okla. (AP) — Flooding persisted across Oklahoma after heavy rains pounded the state, washing out roads and sending creeks and rivers over their banks.
Volunteers piled up sandbags Friday to protect at least two homes in western Vinita, where Craig County Emergency Management Director Morris Bluejacket says Big Cabin Creek has flooded its banks.
Emergency officials say there also was a report of a flooded home overnight in the McAlester area.
The National Weather Service reported at least 6 inches of rain fell in parts of Craig County and near Tahlequah in a 24-hour period.
Weather service officials say the Little River also flooded its banks in a rural area south of Tecumseh.
