TULSA, Okla. (AP) — An investor says the Women's National Basketball Association has given his group "a few more weeks of leeway" to try to bring a franchise to Tulsa by the start of the 2010 season.
Even though local investors had set a Sept. 1 deadline to have funding for a team lined up, Oklahoma City businessman Bill Cameron says the league's president granted the grace period.
Cameron and co-investor David Box gave the status update Wednesday at the Tulsa Press Club, and said Tulsa deserves a major-league sports franchise.
In July, investors announced a plan to bring a WNBA franchise to Tulsa. It is unknown whether the city would be an expansion team or if an existing team would relocate here.
