SULPHUR, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say a 32-year-old Shawnee man has died after saving a child from drowning at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Murray County.
Recreation area spokesman Eric Leonard says an 8-year-old girl began struggling in a stream near Veterans Lake Creek about 5:15 p.m. Monday and the man went into the water to help her.
Leonard says the man began struggling while saving the girl and bystanders pulled him from the water but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A cause of death has not been released.
The girl's name has not been released. She was treated and released at the hospital.
