Electronic insurance verification system to begin

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — State officials say an electronic insurance verification system allowing police to check by computer whether a driver is insured is close to operational.

Project director David Beatty with the state Public Safety Department says five police departments began using the system last week and it should be fully operational in two months.

And Beatty says the Oklahoma Highway Patrol troop in Lawton is testing the system.

The system allows law officers to instantly verify whether a driver is uninsured.

Beatty says the police departments now using the system are Bristow, Duncan, Eufaula, Jones and Seminole.
