Miniature horse found dead near Oologah

— OOLOGAH (AP) — Authorities in northeast Oklahoma are trying to figure out what happened to a miniature horse that was found dead with a gunshot wound.

Roger County Sheriff Scott Walton told the Tulsa World that deputies were called to investigate Thursday after a motorist reported a small brown horse lying on part of a road west of Oologah near the Washington County line.

Investigators say the horse had suffered a gunshot wound.

Walton says deputies are working to find the horse's owner to find out why it was on the roadside and why it had been shot.
