— McALESTER (AP) — An Oklahoma prison official said Tuesday that a man found dead in his cell at Oklahoma State Penitentiary had been sentenced to death for the shotgun slayings of three female relatives in 2007 at a home in Norman.
The prisons spokesman Jerry Massie said William Eugene Davis, 55, was discovered dead inside a cell about 6:30 a.m. Monday. Davis had a cell mate, but Massie said there were no signs of foul play. The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, he said.
Davis received three death sentences in 2010 for the September 2007 slayings of his two sisters, Tami Link, 52, and Sheila Ellis, 56, and Link's mother-in-law, Letannah Bishop, 87.
Prosecutors alleged Davis was upset because of a dispute over Social Security disability payments.
