LAWTON —
Work could begin soon on a convention center and hotel in downtown Lawton if the city council approves.
The council will meet Monday to vote on agreements that already have been approved by other entities involved with the project.
For the project to proceed, the council would have to approve a development agreement and a function space license agreement between Lawton Hospitality Ltd. development group and the Lawton Economic Development Authority. The latter agreement would allow LEDA to pay the development group up to $2.8 million in fees to use the complex.
The council also would have to agree to allow LEDA to issue a privately placed $1.5 million tax apportionment note with the Comanche County Industrial Development Authority.
Plans call for the conference center to include at least 20,000 square feet of meeting space and an adjacent hotel with at least 160 rooms.
