SHORT, Okla. (AP) — Two people from Arkansas have survived a plane crash just west of the Oklahoma-Arkansas border.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 74-year-old Lawrence D. Harrod of Natural Dam, Ark., was piloting the two-seat plane and that Dustin C. Lane of Natural Dam was a passenger when the plane went down just after 6:35 p.m. Sunday.
The OHP says Harrod suffered minor injuries and Lane wasn't hurt.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says the plane took off from a private runway in the county but only managed to climb 200 feet before crashing in a field of tall grass near Lee Creek.
Lockhart says the plane caught fire. He says a cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
The OHP says Harrod stated that the plane had too much weight.
