TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Authorities have charged a Tulsa middle-school teacher in a sex case they say involved a teen boy the teacher was mentoring.
John Gisler was charged Monday with lewd molestation, forcible sodomy and second-degree rape. The 41-year-old man has worked as a science teacher at Whitney Middle School since August 2005.
Records indicate Gisler was arrested Tuesday and bonded out of jail that night.
According to court records, the charges stem from incidents in January 2006. Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley says a 17-year-old boy told police on June 15 that Gisler had molested him since the boy was 14.
Gisler was the boy's mentor in a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma program.
Gisler previously worked as a teacher or special education paraprofessional at schools in Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Jenks and Tulsa.
