SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Our Lady of the Lake Saints lived up to their billing, defeating the Bacone Lady Warriors 92-68 on Tuesday.
The Lady Warriors fell behind early as the Saints raced out to a 32-5 advantage with 11:05 left in the first half.
OLLU’s largest advantage of the half came with two minutes remaining after OLLU’s Mercedes Dobson drained a 3-pointer to put the Saints up 61-22. The Lady Warriors trailed 63-29 at the break.
On the night the Lady Warriors were held to 38 percent (26 of 67) from the field and committed a season-high 28 turnovers.
Danielle Reed paced Bacone in scoring with 15 while Myriah Hadnot added 10 points. Kyna Lewis led the Lady Warriors in rebounds with 10.
It was much of the same tale for the men as the Warriors fell 108-85.
However, the Warriors raced out to a 16-11 lead within the first five minutes of the game, only to have OLLU outscore Bacone 29-11 over the next 10 minutes on their way to a 55-44 lead at halftime.
Bacone knocked down 54 percent (30 of 55) and won the rebounding battle 41-37 but committed 30 turnovers.
Kwame Bates led Bacone in scoring with 23; Christian Smith and Creed Flowers chipped in 14 and 12 apiece.
