Source: McGee’s OU career over

— There was no official news Tuesday related to Stacy McGee’s status but it would appear that the former Muskogee defensive lineman’s career as an Oklahoma Sooner is finished following an arrest early Monday on a DUI charge.

The Oklahoman reported in its Tuesday editions that an OU source with knowledge of the situation said McGee’s arrest means his “career is over.”

Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Meghan McCormick said McGee was booked into the Cleveland County Jail at 1:20 a.m. He was released after posting bail around 8 a.m. Monday.

McGee, a 22-year-old senior who graduated earlier this month with a degree in human relations, played in the Sooners’ final six games this season, logging 14 tackles and one sack. He missed the first six due to an undisclosed violation of team rules.

The school released a statement Monday afternoon that said OU coach Bob Stoops was aware of the situation and, “will address the matter after all pertinent information is available.”

Stoops has seen three players get into legal trouble since the end of the regular season. Starting wide receiver Jalen Saunders and Arizona transfer Cortez Johnson were arrested and charged with marijuana possession less than 12 hours after the Sooners’ 24-17 victory over TCU in the regular-season finale. Johnson, a defensive back, is sitting out this season due to NCAA transfer rules.

The Sooners face Texas A&M in the AT&T Cotton Bowl on Jan. 4 in Arlington, Texas.
