Ex-OU RB a Hall of Famer; radio voice receives special honor

— Former Oklahoma running back Clendon Thomas was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame along with 14 other players the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Saturday in South Bend, Ind.

Thomas, a consensus All-American for the Sooners in 1957 who totaled 2,156 rushing yards in three seasons, is Oklahoma’s Big 12 leading 24th inductee to the College Football Hall of Fame and the first since Tom Brahaney in 2007. He led the nation in scoring in 1956.

Among the other inductees: former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, Florida State ex Deion Sanders and Eddie George, a Heisman Trophy winner as an Ohio State running back

The late Oklahoma play-by-play announcer Bob Barry Sr. was honored posthumously with the National Football Foundation’s Chris Schenkel Award. Barry was the Sooners’ radio play-by-play voice from 1961 to 1972 and again from 1991 until 2010. In between, he called games at Oklahoma State and Tulsa. He died in October at age 80.
