MUSKOGEE 18, HIGLEY, ARIZ. 8 — Finishing up their play at the Coach Bob Invitational in Arizona, the Roughers topped Higley, Ariz., in pounding out six doubles to improve to 8-6 for the season.
Tyler Bowden led the hitting attack with two hits and three RBIs. Taylor Fisher and Casey Winters each had a double as part of their two hits and combined for three RBIs. Garrett Brown added three RBIs.
Winning pitcher Tony Horn (2-0) struck out three batters and gave up four earned runs in five innings of work.
Muskogee jumped out to a 15-1 lead and Higley scored seven runs in two innings to cut the advantage to 15-8.
In other tournament action, the Roughers lost to Prescott, Ariz., 5-3 on Thursday after beating Shadow Ridge, Ariz. 4-3 on Wednesday.
The Roughers are back home at 5 p.m. Monday to resume District 6A-3 play against Bixby. Muskogee and the Spartans play again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Bixby.
VIAN 9, DOVER 0 – Jon Andrews (4-0) tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight Dover hitters on Friday, leading the Wolverines to the finals of the Ripley Tournament.
Rilee Simon had the big blast for Vian (11-1) with a grand slam home run in the seventh inning, capping off a 3-for-5 day at the plate, to close out the Wolverines’ scoring. Rilee’s brother Rowdy was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Landon Decker was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Vian plays Leedey at 5 p.m. today in the finals.
WARNER GRABS KETCHUM TITLE – The Eagles run-ruled Foyil 10-0 then beat Class 2A No. 9 Ketchum 6-2 to win the Ketchum tournament on Friday.
Tristan VanDaley earned the win in the first game for Warner (12-2), improving to 2-2 on the year while striking out five. Shilo Bullard, Levi Jones, Tim Smithson and Justin Wright were all 2-for-3 with Wright driving home two runs and Jones plating another.
In the championship game, Jones struck out six and scattered four hits to improve to 6-0. Wright was 2-for-4 while Smithson drove in a run.
