KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northeastern State women’s basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the 2012-13 MIAA preseason coaches and media Polls, the league announced today.
The RiverHawks will be competing in their inaugural season in the MIAA, and they are coming off three-straight seasons with at least 25 wins.
“Being selected this high shows that we have been noticed by the people in the MIAA, and it is a show of respect within the region,” NSU head women’s basketball coach Randy Gipson said. “At the same time, I’ve never been one to put much stock into the preseason polls. We’ll think about it for about 10 seconds and then move on. We have to get ready to play our first scrimmage right now.”
Washburn, who won both the MIAA regular season and postseason tournament, sits atop the poll. Pittsburg State, who won the NCAA South Central Regional last year, is ranked second. The third place squad is Emporia State.
