Five players from the University of Oklahoma football players were named on Monday to two watch lists for prestigious college football awards.
Two of the players — senior defensive end Jeremy Beal and junior linebacker Travis Lewis — are on the list for the 2010 Bronko Nagruski Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player.
Beal had 19 tackles for a loss and 11 sacks in 2009. Lewis had 109 tackles incluidng 9.5 tackles for loss.
Meanwhile, the Outland Trophy, presented to the nation’s top offensive lineman or defensive tackle, released its list and the Sooners chosen in the preseason include offensive tackle Cory Brandon, center Ben Habern and defensive tackle Adrian Taylor.
Brandon is the Sooners’ No. 1 right tackle, while Habern started at center last yer and Tayler had 37 tackles including seven for a loss and 3.5 sacks.
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be presented on Dec. 6, while the Outland Trophy presentation will be Jan. 13.
