NORMAN — Three Muskogee High School wrestlers are in the championship semifinals and three others will compete in the consolation finals today at the Oklahoma Open at the Lloyd Noble Center.
The championship semifinalists are Marselle McVay in the 135-pound division, Quincy Mondaine (215) and Ryan Lester (285). Mondaine signed with University of Oklahoma earlier this month.
The consolation semifinalists are Miles Andrews (135), Leo Arriaga (152) and Calvin Stephens (171).
“We wrestled well and hard,” MHS coach Bobby Jefferson said. “We overcame adversity as Marselle won in triple overtime in the (championship) quarterfinals. Leo lost a close match in the quarterfinals and wrestled in the consolation quarterfinals back-to-back. That’s tough to do. Calvin wrestled well. I thought we wrestled hard.”
Action starts at 9 a.m. today and the finals begin at noon in the two-day tournament that features teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Colorado.
“It’s a prestigious tournament for the preseason,” Jefferson said.
After today’s matches, the Roughers have their first home dual match of the season when they meet Broken Arrow at Ron D. Milam Memorial Gymnasium.
