Two players from Muskogee and one from Vian were members of Jenks Black, which won the first Muskogee Seventh Grade Classic that ended on Sunday at Indian Bowl. Jenks Black beat Jenks Trojans 18-6 in the title game
The players were quarterback-linebacker J.R. Singleton and center-guard Adonis Cole along with running back-linebacker Rylie Simon of Vian. Each of the players on the winning team received a trophy and a T-shirt.
“All three kids started and did a fantastic job,” Jenks coach Brad Heath, the editor of VYPE magazine, said. “We were happy to have them. They were great.”
James Singleton, J.R.’s father and the varsity linebackers coach at MHS, and former Rougher lineman Willie Alexander were Heath’s defensive assistants.
Besides Jenks, Broken Arrow, Union and Bartlesville had teams entered in the five-team classic. Muskogee wasn’t represented because they were already competing in basketball and wrestling, according to Classic director Dan Hall.
