Connors scores four in double figures in home romp

WARNER — Four Connors players scored in double figures as the Cowboys recorded their fourth straight win to start the season, 100-49 over Oklahoma Baptist University’s JV at Melvin Self Field House on Wednesday night.

Corderio Maclin’s thunderous slam dunk at the horn off his own steal capped the night as the Cowboys prepped for the annual Cowboys Classic that starts here Friday. He wasn’t however in doubles for the night. Tevin Worthy, who replaced center C.J. Washington (broken nose) as a starter, led the list with 20. Mark Reynolds and Ray Jones added 14 each and the third Connors guard in the lineup, Orlando Brown, had 11.

Connors led 50-27 at half.

The Cowboys made their first five of their first six shots of the game to lead 14-8. Brown and Rutledge had back-to-back 3-pointers during the run6

“Once again we were able to play our entire bench and give our reserves lots of playing time,” said Connors coach Bill Muse. “With so many new faces on the team — nine — it’s important for us to gain all the experience we can.

“Our bench is going to be very important to as we work towards the meat of our schedule. I thought they played extremely well tonight.”

The Connors bench accounted for 34 of the points. They also had just short of half of the 38 rebounds.

Connors outrebounded OBU 38-26. Maclin had eight.

The Cowboys will play Arkansas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Connors opened the season with an 83-67 win over the Buffaloes. Murray State meets Richland College (Dallas) at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Connors plays Richland at 4 p.m. after Murray plays Arkansas Baptist at 2 p.m.
