OKLAHOMA CITY — Connors State was sluggish in the first half, but the Cowboys did something about it in the second half to beat the Mid-America junior varsity 91-57 and win their third consecutive game to start this season.
The Cowboys led 41-30 at halftime. Then, they had 14-0 run over four minutes in the second half to push out to a 57-31 lead. Connors’ biggest lead of the game was 27 points, 91-54.
“We played well in the second half,” Connors coach Bill Muse said. “We were aggressive and played harder. We had started the game too soft and I told the players about our lack of execution and effort.”
Jarvis Garner, a 6-foot-7 freshman forward from Conway, Ark., led the Cowboys in the game with 18 points. He was one of five Cowboys in double figures.
The others included Tevin Worthy (17), Ray Jones (11), Corey Wilford (11) and Orlando Brown (10).
Toby Rivers led Mid-America with 16 points.
The Cowboys return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against the Oklahoma Baptist JV in their first game at Melvin Self Field House.
It’s also Patriots Day at the game. Members of all branches of the military along with police, fire and emergency medical technicians and their families will be admitted to the game for free.
