Calendar

The outdoor calendar runs every Friday. Items should be submitted by fax 684-2865, e-mail at sports@muskogeephoenix.com or submitted in writing to the Phoenix at 214 Wall Street during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Items must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday for inclusion in the next calendar.

THIS WEEK

Friday-Sunday— National Wild Turkey Federation Women in the Outdoors event at Tenkiller State Park, Vian. Sign up to try rappelling, dutch oven cooking, skeet shooting, knife forging, mountain biking, fossil collection, basic fishing and wood art. Women in the Outdoors is for ladies 14 and older. The event costs $50 for a single day, $65 for two days. There are mother-daughter specials too. Contact Leann Bunn, 489-5641.

Nov. 10-11 —FIRE Training Session in Muskogee, 7-9 p.m. FIRE is a weather-based decision-support system for wildland fire managers in Oklahoma. Applications include both wildfire and prescribed fire. Training sessions will be directed by Dr. J. D. Carlson, OSU fire meteorologist and director of the OK-FIRE program. NORTHEAST

Ft. Gibson: Nov. 1 — Elevation 6 1/2 feet above normal and falling. Catfish good on juglines on shad, cut shad and hotdog chunks in the creek channels. White bass fair jigging spoons and swim baits in deeper holes. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Report submitted by Rick Stafford in Wagoner.

Grand: No report submitted this week.

Greenleaf: Oct. 28 — Elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits, crankbaits and jig and worm. Catfish fair on fresh cut bait on bottom around the spillway and up creek channels. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around fishing docks and brush structure. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.

Hudson: Nov. 3 — Elevation 1 foot above normal. Blue catfish very good on cut shad. Crappie fair to good on minnows and jigs around brush piles. All other fishing slow. Report submitted by Steve Loveland, game warden stationed in Mayes and Rogers counties.

Keystone: No report submitted this week.

Lower Illinois: Oct. 29 — Elevation rising, water 55 and murky. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits at 1-2 feet around coves and weed beds all along the river. Striped bass slow on live bait at 1-2 feet below Gore Landing. Channel catfish excellent on cut bait on bottom all along the river. Trout fair on rooster tails at 1-2 feet and on power bait on bottom. Report submitted by D. Tracy, Town of Gore.

Tenkiller: Oct. 26 — Elevation 5 3/4 feet above normal, water clear and steady. Largemouth bass fair on soft bass jigs in shallow water and on crankbaits in 8-10 feet Crappie fair minnows, tube jigs or feathered jigs at 10-15 feet in docks. Webbers Falls: Oct. 28 — Elevation 3 feet above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits and crankbaits along riprap and creek channels. Catfish good on fresh cut bait on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 16 feet around brush structure and bridges. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.

SOUTHEAST

Eufaula: Nov.1 — Elevation 4 feet above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass fair on plastic baits around rocky areas. White bass good around bridges in the current. Blue catfish good on shad in the shallow flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around boat docks baited with brush and standing timber. Report submitted by Ed Rodebush, game warden stationed in McIntosh County.

Robert S. Kerr: Nov. 3 — Elevation normal, water 65 and murky. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around submerged brush piles. Largemouth bass slow. White bass slow. Catfish good on fresh shad or large minnows around drop-offs and ledges along the creek and river channels. Report submitted by Leland Sockey, game warden stationed in Haskell County.
