The weather was very enjoyable Saturday evening at the Muskogee Round-Up Club with Garr Ranch Productions and the cowboys and bulls of the Regional Professional Bull Riders Association.
The bulls were the winners with Cody Huitt being the only one to cover a bull. He scored an 85 and took home $905. Gar Ranch Productions intend to have many more events in Muskogee in their 2013 season. Their next stop is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at T-Bones Place in Tahlequah. There will be steer riding, mutton bustin’ and bull riding. They want to invite you out to see the top guys go head to head with the toughest bulls around!
On Saturday the National Barrel Horse Association will be holding a jackpot at the Muskogee Round-Up Club arena. Exhibitions begin at 5 p.m. and the jackpot at 7 p.m. The running order of events is exhibitions, pole bending, peewees, then the $100 added open. The youth (18 and under), seniors (50 and over) and $250 novice horse are run as sidepots to the open. You do not have to enter the open to run in the youth or seniors. The Oklahoma Junior Rodeo Association will hold their first fall rodeo at the Wagoner Round-Up Club Arena on Saturday, Sept. 8. Exhibition barrels will begin at 10:45 a.m. and the rodeo will start at noon. They have added 6 and under poles, along with chute-dogging. All racing events (flags, barrels, poles, goats) must be entered by 11:30 a.m. Roping entries will close after the first pole bender runs. Age groups are determined as of Sept. 1, 2012. Please bring a copy of the contestant’s birth certificate to be kept on file and check out their website at www.ojraonline.com for more info.
First Baptist Church in Coweta will be holding their annual rodeo Saturday and Sunday at the Coweta Round-Up Club Arena. Marty Brock is scheduled to be there. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
The next five jackpots in the seven-week barrel and pole series at the Broken Arrow Round-Up Club will have $150 added to the barrels nightly and then at the finals $750 in added money. Kevin Grover GMC in Wagoner is the sponsor for the $2,000 total added money. Exhibitions begin at 6 p.m. at $4 each. The polebending begins at 8 p.m., followed by the added money barrels. If you haven’t tried it yet, there will be arena sorting at the Hillbilly Ranch and Arena Friday evening. Go east on Hancock Street until the road turns back south. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the sorting about 8 p.m. Any level horse or rider can compete.
There’s also a horse sale at Parrish’s to see what used tack has been brought in and what horses are there for your choosing. The tack begins at 5 p.m. Friday and the horses follow.
Farmers Almanac Best Days to trim manes and tails to promote growth are Aug. 23, 24, and 27 thru 29. The best days to wean foals this month is Aug. 25-31.
