Brandon Morton took the lead on lap two and never looked back as he dominated racing action on the big fairgrounds half mile oval of Thunderbird Speedway as the O’Reilly/NCRA Modified South division made their first-ever appearance on Saturday.
Earning the most passing and heat-race finishing points in his race, Brett Henson started on the pole for the 20-lap feature finale and edged out front as the green flag fell. The race went under yellow rather quickly as Bixby’s Chance Bishop spun in turn two.
On the complete restart, Henson again motored from the field and led lap one while behind him Morton, who started fifth, worked his way up into the runner-up position. Carl Conley, Cole Berkinble and Chad Davis settled in behind.
Henson’s lead would be short lived as Morton powered his way underneath the leader coming out of turn four on lap two to take the lead for good.
In the Street Stock class, early leader Dalton Ragsdale broke to an early lead only to suffer a blown engine on lap five. That gave the lead to Bobby Potts who would also suffer mechanical issues and retire to the pits. Kyle Slader and Tom Snyder would battle each other for the remaining laps with Slader winning. Snyder would cross the line in second with Dustin Boston third and Dan Parks fourth.
Slader was on his way to victory in the Sport Mod class until a broken crankshaft sidelined him on the last lap. Slader led Dallas, Texas driver Robert Vetter for most of the race until Slader suffered the problem. Zach Tippett worked his way through the field to claim second, with Brett Sexton, Jimmy Bradley, and Gary Dilbeck rounding out the top five.
Chris Jenkins out ran Jeffrey Daniels and Dusty Coles to claim the Strictly Stock feature. The three raced around the track nose-to-tail for nearly the entire race. Steve Carey would run fourth, with Gary Goodwin fifth.
Dillon Rupe led every lap of the Super Stock feature to claim the win. Billy Durossette and Johnny Stonecipher raged a battle for second with Durossette taking second, Stonecipher third, Dustin Hearn fourth and Blake Byrd fifth.
The special grudge race between four Sladers had to be rescheduled for next Friday due to the cars that were going to be used suffering mechanical problems or crashes.
