NORMAN (AP) — Forward Barry Honore has transferred from Southern University to Oklahoma, where he will be a walk-on.
Coach Jeff Capel announced Tuesday that the 6-foot-7 Honore would be joining the Sooners after averaging 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in his two seasons at Southern. Honore has two seasons of eligibility left, but will have to sit out next season under the NCAA’s transfer rules.
Honore says he decided to come to Oklahoma because it is a strong basketball program and because he has family in Norman and nearby Noble. Honore was born in Oklahoma City before attending South Garland High School near Dallas.
He was chosen as the freshman of the year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2007-08.
