MHS downs Jenks to win 2nd straight

JENKS — Mitch Stevenson hit a one-out double to drive in Archie Bradley, who also had doubled, to lift Muskogee to a 5-4 victory in eight innings over Jenks on Tuesday.

The win is Muskogee’s second in as many days as the Roughers improved to 8-15.

“It was a good win. Jenks is ranked in the top 15 (in Okrankings.com Class 6A state poll),” MHS coach Mack Chambers said. “(Winning pitcher John) Singler came in to pitch in the fifth inning with runners on first and second base and with no outs. He got out of the inning without giving up any runs. He pitched well.”

Singler, relieving the starter Stevenson, evened his record at 1-1.

Stevenson drove in two runs, while Bradley had two doubles. Bradley Coker added two hits for the Roughers.

Muskogee had a three-run fourth inning. Wes Newman started the inning with a solo home run. Bradley doubled home Josh Linn, who had singled and Bradley dashed home with the third run on a suicide squeeze bunt by Stevenson.

Jenks rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth.

MHS tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh when courtesy runner Blake Brown, running for Josh Silver, scored on an errant pickoff throw at first base.

Muskogee now hosts its Rougher Spring Classic, starting today. The Roughers do not play until 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Keys and then face Eufaula at 3 p.m. Thursday.
