CONNORS WINS — Garrett Graziano (5-1) scattered four hits and struck out three batters in pitching a complete game, while Peter Bako and James Kottaras each had two singles as the Cowboys (26-5), ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA poll this week, downed Carl Albert 4-1 at Poteau on Thursday.
Kottaras scored on Brock Feldman’s single in the fifth inning to give Connors a 2-1 lead and then Kottaras’ singled in Jordan Castaldo in the sixth inning. Graziano tossed eight shutout innings after Carl Albert took an early 1-0 lead in the first. The Vikings are 15-12.
The Cowboys play at Biff Thompson Field in a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader against Hillsdale Baptist.
College softball
EASTERN 13, CONNORS 3 — Keely Corbell singled in two runs, but it wasn’t enough for the Cowgirls (22-12) to beat Eastern at the Connors diamond. The game was delayed twice for a total of 20 minutes and the second game of the twinbill was tied at 1 in the sixth when it was called off and will be part of the games scheduled at Eastern on April 25.
Gabby Araujo (10-7) was the losing pitcher. Connors has canceled its game with Northeastern A&M; on Saturday and will return to action on Monday at home against Murray State to start an eight-game homestand.
BACONE 9-3, SOUTHWESTERN 0-8 — Playing at home, the Lady Warriors (17-16) split a doubleheader with Southwestern (Kan.) College Thursday as Chrissy Willis got the pitching win in the first game, but they gave up six runs in the first two innings of the second game.
In the first game, Willis tossed her third straight shutout and struck out eight batters. Tiffany Ward slugged a grand slam for her sixth home run of the season and Gore native Kendra Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Alex Ramirez added two hits and two runs scored. In the nightcap, Robin Chriestenson was the losing pitcher as Kristy Britton had two hits including her fourth home run of the season and three RBIs.
Bacone returns to Red River Athletic Conference play at noon Saturday at home against Texas College.
Prep baseball
WELEETKA TOURNAMENT — Cameron Proctor, Derrick Skinner and Steven Downum each hit a home run to support winning pitcher Eric Sheridan’s one-hit shutout in Oktaha’s 13-0 romp against Quinton. Sheridan (2-0) also struck out eight batters in the opening round of the Weleetka Tournament.
Oktaha (6-0), No. 3 in the Okrankings.com Class 2A poll, scored 11 runs in the first inning and sent 15 batters to the plate. Daniel Hayes, Jon Hayes and Cale Elam each had two hits in the game.
The Tigers are scheduled to play Webbers Falls in the tournament at 4 p.m. today. Webbers rolled past the tournament host 8-0 as Dakota Shipley and Byron Carman combined on a six-inning one-hitter. Shipley struck out 10 and Carman struck out one for the Warriors, now 9-1.
Mitchell Carman had three hits and two RBIs, while Levi Sims had two hits including a single and triple and Shipley added a two-run home run for his sixth of the season.
Porum beat Butner 9-2 as Kaegen Wiggins had three hits, including a home run and drove in four runs, while Wiggins struck out batters and had four hits in getting the win.. The Panthers (6-2) are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. tonight.
HASKELL 11, HULBERT 1 — Playing in the Okay Tournament, Dylan Wells had two hits and drove in two runs as the Haymakers (10-3) topped the Riders. Kenneth Farmer also drove in two runs.
Winning pitcher Jamie Walker (1-0) and Cameron Kaiser each had two hits and Jordan Pendergraft had a triple and drove in a run. Haskell continues play in the tournament today, weather permitting, in facing Chouteau at 3 p.m. and Braggs at 5 p.m.
VIAN 9, KANSAS 0 — At the Stilwell Tournament, Zach Truett (3-2) struck out six in pitching a one-hitter as the Wolverines (6-4) had their second game rained out.
Dustin Pickup hit a three-run home run, while Truett had two hit and Hunter Spencer slapped three hits. Vian is scheduled to play Stilwell at 4:30 p.m. today in the tourney.
HARTSHORNE 15, MIDWAY 1 — Playing in the Crowder Tournament, the Class B Chargers (4-9) lost to the Miners, ranked No. 18 in the Okrankings.com Class 3A poll. Michael Frazier (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
Chris Ryder, Stoney Rodriguez and Michael Campbell singled in the game. Midway plays the loser of Indianola-Canadian at noon today.
Prep softball
CHECOTAH SPLITS THREE-WAY — It was good and bad news for the Lady Wildcats (7-6), beating Stigler 10-0 and losing 5-0 to Vian in a three-way at Checotah.
Shelby Townsend had two hits including a double in the first game, and had two hits in the second game. Megan Fry had three hits and two RBIs in the first game, while Christina Wilson, Courtney Wren and Ashley Breashears each had two hits in the nightcap. Chelsea Pollard (6-3) got the pitching decisions in both games.
Meanwhile, Vian won its two games, also beating Stigler 12-0 after its 5-0 win over Checotah.
Lauren McElhanney two hits including a a double and triple and four RBIs. In the second game, Sydney Sloan and winning pitcher Rachel Girty teamed up for four hits and three RBIs. Girty improved to 6-0 with both pitching wins.
WARNER 8, KEYS 4 — Morgan Webb (3-3) picked up the pitching win and Sarah Smithson had two hits and two RBIs as the Lady Eagles (3-3) topped the Lady Cougars at Warner. Chelsea Morris and Webb each had two hits, while Macey Carman had two hits and two runs scored.
Crystal Manus had two hits for Keys.
FORT GIBSON FESTIVAL — Tahlequah went 4-0 on the festival’s first day, capping the day with a 17-11 win over Jay.
Tahlequah (7-0) beat Stilwell 15-3 and then edged Union 11-10 and Sand Springs 6-4 in earlier action. Union beat Stilwell 3-0, Stilwell beat Sand Springs 7-3 and Sand Springs beat Jay 3-2 in other games.
Fort Gibson begins second-day play at 10:15 a.m. against Sequoyah. The festival finishes with a 4:30 p.m. game between Fort Gibson and Muldrow. Jenks is the other of the four teams involved in second-day play.
