Connors baseball splits doubleheader

WARNER — Daniel Meeley homered in each game, giving him three for the year, and had two of his three doubles in a 3-for-5 game as Connors State baseball salvaged a split with Maple Woods, Mo., at Biff Thompson Field on Saturday.

The Cowboys (25-5) won 13-3 after losing the opener, 8-5.

Garrett Graziano (4-1) allowed two hits and struck out nine with one earned run in seven innings for the victory. Peter Bako had three hits in five at-bats and Dude Brown added a pair of hits.

Diomedes Gonzalez drove in Brock Feldmann to tie the first game at 3 and the Cowboys had the winning run at the plate in the seventh, but losing pitcher George Navarette (4-1) was tagged for three runs in a five-run Maple Woods sixth.

Connors is at Independence, Kan., today for a 1 p.m. contest.
