WARNER — Connors State rebounded from its first loss of the season in dramatic fashion, getting a walk-off win in the nightcap against Jefferson County, 9-8.
After blowing a 7-4 lead with two outs in the top of the ninth on a grand slam, the Cowboys used some two-out magic of their own.
The first two Connors batters reached base in the bottom of the ninth before Corey Proctor bunted to move the runners to second and third. After an out, Brock Feldman ripped a single to right field to plate the winning runs.
Connors build a 7-4 advantage on the strength of a fourth-inning grand slam by Tahlequah’s Brad Shankle and two home runs by Nick Grimmett — a two-run shot in the fourth and a solo blast in the sixth.
In the first game, Jefferson County scored nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings to stifle Connors, 16-6.
“That just buried us,” Connors coach Perry Keith said.
The Cowboys also made seven errors.
“We just didn’t play very well in the first game, and that’s not typical of us,” Keith said. “But we came back and played better (in the second game). With the come-from-behind ninth, it was good to see how resilient we are. The guys hung in there against a good club.”
Connors moves to 5-1 on the season and hosts Bacone Thursday in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
