LANGSTON — James Maynard and Danny Lowery brought the Bacone College football season to an end Saturday as they combined to lead the Langston Lions to a 28-9 victory over the Warriors in the Central States Football League finale at Langston.

Maynard rushed for 120 yards on 12 carries and scored a seven-yard second-quarter touchdown, while Lowery completed 11 of 24 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions, ranked No. 9 in the national NAIA polls, are 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the CSFL.

Bacone ends at 6-5 and 2-2.

“It’s not the kind of note we wanted to end the year on,” Bacone coach Joe Thrasher said. “We couldn’t get the motor running. The effort was much better than last week (in the 52-7 loss to Northwestern State at Indian Bowl). I’m proud of these guys. They never quit and they kept fighting. We didn’t have anything left in the tank.”

Bacone was able to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter when Jarrel Morton returned a fumble 76 yards for a touchdown with 7:45 left. A punt blocked out of the end zone by Ryan Parks with 12:01 left in the game accounted for the Warriors’ other points.

Maynard’s touchdown run and Lowery’s seven-yard pass to Carlos Ross in the second quarter helped build the Lions’ lead to 21-7 at halftime.

Lowery tossed a 16-yard pass to Raytron Mayfield in the first quarter and Dominique Whaley rambled 53 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to account for the Lions’ other points.
