STILLWATER — The Cowboys now get ready to play Missouri, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press poll. With its win over Texas A&M;, OSU climbed all the way to No. 17 in both the AP and USA Today poll.
Coach Mike Gundy was able to think about the Tigers after the Cowboys’ 56-28 win over Texas A&M; Saturday.
“They have a good football team and great skill,” he said. “The quarterback (Chase Daniel) is obviously a very good player. They’ve got a lot of skill out there on the perimeter.
“We’re looking forward to the game and our players will be willing to accept the challenge. “
Start them up
Oklahoma State is off to a 5-0 start for the first time under Gundy and for the first time since 2004 and the ninth time in school history.
Top 25 records
With the national ranking, the Cowboys are 10-11 when in the Top 25, including 2-4 under coach Bob Simmons, 7-7 for Les Miles and now 1-0 under Mike Gundy.
Diversified Cowboys
Oklahoma State scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams Saturday night for the first time since Nov. 16, 2002, when the Cowboys did the same against Kansas.
Crowd pleasers
The announced crowd for the game was 51,147, marking the third time OSU has had back-to-back attendance of 50,000 or more fans. The others were in 1979 and 1985.
Opening up
OSU is 5-8 in Big 12 Conference openers, including 2-1 in Stillwater. Overall, the Cowboys are 36-53-2 in conference openers in their history in the Southwest, Big Eight, Missouri Valley and Big 12 conferences.
End of a streak
Oklahoma State’s win over Texas A&M; snapped a five-year losing streak to the Aggies. The last time the Cowboys beat A&M; was in the 2003, or coach Dennis Franchione’s first season.
