Muskogee had spurts of winning volleyball Tuesday night at home.
Spurts didn’t equal a match when going against the No. 5 team in Class 6A and the Rougherettes took it on the chin in a 3-0 setback (25-14, 25-18, 25-11) to drop to 12-15 on the season.
“That was a microcosm of our season. We show what we’re capable of and good teams, well, better teams carry that through the hole match whereas we’re still struggling with putting enough of that together,” Muskogee coach John Hammer said.
Carly Hennesy’s block started a three-point surge that gave Muskogee a 4-1 lead, a run that ended with one of Galen Jernigan’s seven match kills. The three-point advantage was equaled on two other occasions, the last at 8-5 on a mishandled Owasso serve.
Chloe Ford’s kill made it 9-8. What followed was a 10-0 Owasso run that turned the first game the way of the Lady Rams (20-7).
Muskogee never led again but fought off game point in the second session with a four-point rally, cutting the deficit from 24-15 to 24-18. Jernigan had a kill and a block in that run.
Sara Stotts had 12 assists and Chloe Ford three solo blocks in the loss.
The Rougherettes play Glenpool on Thursday.
