The Hillbilly Ranch and Arena in Muskogee will be the location for steer wrestling at 1 p.m. Sept. 28. This event is approved by the Oklahoma Steer Wrestling Association. Entry fee for the open is three-head for $100. Novice steer wrestling entry fee is two-head for $60. Enter on site – cash only. Information: G.V. Gulager, cell 708-2319 or at home at 456-1774.
There will be a concession stand on the grounds, furnished by the Connors State College Softball Team. The girls are raising money for new uniforms and other team expenses.
Throughout the next few weeks, Hillbilly Ranch and Arena, owned and operated by Rick and Gail Ward, will be producing an assortment of events at their ranch. This week, they’ll hold their last Friday night arena sorting at 7 p.m. Next week they will go to Saturday nights for the sorting. Starting time will remain at 7 p.m. This is really a fun event – whatever level you and/or your horse are. To get to the Hillbilly Ranch, go east under the Muskogee Turnpike on Hancock and continue approximately four miles. At the east end of Hancock, make the curve to the right to South 85th Street East, the arena will be on the left – you can’t miss it. Information: Rick or Gail Ward at 684-7026 or 682-2581.
The barrel racing at Barton’s Arena is growing in size. They had 28 runs Monday evening, with Tiffany Lawrence running a 17.950, setting the fastest time in the first division. Also in the money were, first division, Jennifer Schmidt, second and Tarrah Johnson, third; second division, Jessica Taylor in first, Katie Meller, second and Tiffany Lawrence, third. Also, third division had Kristen Meier first, Betty Kloeckler second and Tiffany Lyons, third. Fourth division went: Dawn Taylor, first; Eden Maples, second, and myself in the No. 3 spot. Sugar Baby and I are going to move up a division at least before this series is over!
Remember – this Thursday will be the tack and horse sale at the Muskogee Stockyards, tack first then horses. Call Ervin at 682-3409 for more information. Friday evening will see the tack and horse sale at Parrish Horse Sales, just south of Wagoner on U.S. 69. Tack sells at 5 p.m. and horses at 6 p.m. Call Troy Parrish at 485-1095.
