Oklahoma football notebook

From staff reports

Owens on the field

Muskogee product Jameel Owens got into the game in the first half but not as a receiver. He was on the Sooners’ kickoff and punting teams. He did not catch a pass.

Broyles’ house

Freshman Ryan Broyles certainly knows how to get out of Bob Stoops’ doghouse. Missing the opener for discipline purposes, the Norman redshirt freshman caught seven passes for 141 yards and a touchdown, the best debut ever by an OU receiver.

Better defense

Oklahoma’s pass defense was a little porous in the first half, allowing Cincinatti’s Dustin Grutza to throw for 208 yards. But the Bearcats had only 31 more in seven second half possessions. They only had 10 yards in the third period.

Bradford ‘s day

Bradford’s five TD passes ties an Owen Field-best he set against Miami last year. Jason White (Texas A&M;, 2003) and Josh Heupel (Indiana State, 1999) also threw five.
