OSU’s Tway comes away with top medal

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Oklahoma State University freshman Kevin Tway shot a 4-over par 75, but held on to win top medalist honors Saturday in the Division I men’ Central Regional tournament at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course. The son of PGA pro Bob Tway finished the tournament with a three-round total of 214.

Tway ended up one stroke ahead of runners-up Brandon Gielow of Wake Forest and Robert Rohannon of Penn State and their 215s.

Wake Forest captured the team championship with a 879. Oklahoma State, tied for sixth place after two rounds, zipped to take second place with its 889.

Tway birdied the No. 4, 13 and 16 holes. He also double bogeyed No. 11 and bogeyed the No. 1, 2, 5, 14 and 17 holes in his final round. He had rounds of 70 and 69 before Saturday.

Trent Leon, Tway’s OSU teammate, finished tied for fifth with his 217 after shooting a 1-over par 72 Saturday. He had rounds of 71 and 74.

Other Cowboys and their scores included Rickie Fowler tied for 20th (74-77-73—224), Mark Johnson tied for 115th (78-79-79—236) and Sallisaw’s Trent Whitekiller tied for 125th (79-83-77—239).

In the meantime, Arkansas (304-304-306—914) finished tied for 19th in the team standings.

Individually, David Lingmerth tied for 20th (75-74-75—224), Andrew Landry (78-72-76—226) tied for 41st, Jason Turner tied for 85th (74-79-78—231) and Samuel Chavez (77-79-79—235) and Will Osborne (78-80-77—235) tied for 109th



OU places 14th

BREMERTON, Wash. — University of Oklahoma’s shot a final round of 297 Saturday to finish in 14th place at the NCAA Division I men’s West Regional tournament at the Gold Mountain Golf Club’s Olympic Course.

Southern California won the tourney with a three-round total of 862.

Individually, Phillip Bryan was the Sooners’ top finisher at tied for 23rd with his three-day total of 219. He shot a 1-over par 73 in the final round to go with his first two rounds of 74 and 72.

Meanwhile, Liam Logan was tied for 30th (76-70-76—221), Jesse Schulte was tied for 52nd (77-71-76—224), Ben Blundell tied for 121st (79-80-73—232) and Tyler Rody was 141st (90-76-81—247).
