Wild Horse Ministries will be at the Three Rivers Cowboy Church this Friday and Saturday evenings. On Friday evening, Paul Daily will begin with a halter-broke 2-year old colt and go through the steps to riding it by the end of Saturday evening.
The Daily family comes from Trout, La. During the training session, Daily relates his actions with horse training to our relationship with God, based on trust, faith, obedience, and love. Starting time is 7 p.m. nightly. Bring your lawn chairs as everything will take place in a round pen in the arena. There is no admission. TRCC is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of South Country Club and Smith Ferry Road. For more information call Pastor Tom Gragg at (918) 577-5190.
The Haskell Livestock Booster Club’s annual rodeo gets underway at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Saturday is “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night. G-Money Rodeo Company is the stock contractor. This rodeo is a part of G-Money’s M&M Camper Tour Rodeos. The rodeo is ACRA, CRRA, and CRA sanctioned, and there is $300 added money per event and mutton bustin’ nightly. Admission for adults is $8, children 12 and under get in for $5. This will be at the All Sports Arena. G-Money always puts on a good rodeo – so prepare to have a great time!
Gail Ward of Hillbilly Ranch and Arena says there will be arena sorting Friday night. Gates open at 6 p.m. and since the weather is supposed to be a little cooler, they will start the sorting about 8 p.m. with three-person teams. Tickets to sort are $4 each. It is so much fun! For more information call Gail at (918) 682-2581 or Rick at (918) 684-7026. The arena is located on Hancock – as far east as you can go without driving into the river – the east end of Gooseneck Bend!
The National Barrel Horse Association will be run at the Broken Arrow Round-Up Club arena on Saturday. Exhibitions start at 5 p.m. and the jackpot at 7 p.m. Poles are first with full-second splits and a $20 entry fee. The barrel classes will include peewee (10-and-under), youth (18-and-under), seniors (50-and-over), and a $100 added open. For information, contact Cindy Woodworth at (918) 636-6571.
The Professional Bull Riders will be at the BOK Center this Friday and Saturday! You can see our home state favorites in Ryan Dirteater of Hulbert, L.J. Jenkins of Porum, and Kinta’s Austin Meier as well as the top two bucking bulls in the world – Asteroid and Bushwacker. Jenkins is currently ranked second in the world and has finished in the top 10 in eight consecutive events and nine times in the last 10 events. Meier is eighth and Dirteater 11th. Meier’s mom Twila is a noted Checotah barrel racer, his father Rex has been a top farrier in our area for years, and Austin’s wife Kristen, is also a highly-touted barrel racer.
It will be the ninth time in the last two seasons that the top two contenders for PBR world champion bull have competed head-to-head. Defending world champion Bushwacker has bucked off 42 riders in a row, while 2012 runner-up Asteroid has a streak of 15 consecutive buckoffs, including 10 in 2012.
Tulsa will be the last chance for fans to watch two-time PBR world champion Chris Shivers, who announced in February he will retire at the end of this season. The 33-year-old won the PBR world championship in 2000 and 2003 and ranks third in career earnings with more than $3.9 million.
Farmers Almanac’s best days to trim manes and tails to promote growth are August 23-24 and 27-29. The best days to wean foals in August are the 25th and 31st.
