BASEBALL

OKTAHA WINS — Cale Elam struck out 10 batters and Shane Leach slugged two home runs as the Tigers (3-0) defeaed Latta 5-2 to win the Dale Tournament on Saturday.

Elam had a perfect game through three innings. Leach hit a two-run home run in the third and and a solo blast in the fifth. Oktaha plays at 4 p.m. Monday at Crowder.



SOFTBALL

Fort Gibson Festival — The Lady Tigers won two games on Saturday, beating Keys 8-0 and Heavener 4-3..

In beating Heavener, Kirby Parnell’s bases-loaded single down the left field line scored Brittany Gerdes from third base and lift the Lady Tigers to the win. Gerdes came into run after Caitlin Craig’s single, advanced to second on a sacrifice and took third base on Ashley Nevitt’s hit.

Nevitt drove in two runs, while Cheyene Johnson had three hits and two RBIs and Kayla Menie had two hits against Keys. Fort Gibson is 3-1 for the season when it plays at 6 p.m. Monday at Catoosa.

Keys, coached by former Muskogee coach Mack Chambers, had a big win with its 4-3 victory over Jenks and it came after losing to the host Lady Tigers.

Jami Guthrie’s bases-loaded walk put the Lady Cougars ahead to stay and pitcher Crystal Manus retired nine of the last 12 batters she faced for the win.

The Lady Cougars are 3-2 this season.

Meanwhile, Tahlequah knocked off Haskell 8-3 on the strength of a four-run fourth inning.

Erica Sampson started the inning with a one-out single to score Shelby Sanders. Ashley Boswell tripled in two runs and Jessica Patrick added an RBI double of her own. Boswell had two hits and three RBIs in the game. Angelea Dry was the winning pitcher.

SEQUOYAH UNBEATEN — Sequoyah finished the first week of the season unbeaten (7-0) after beating Berryhill 1-0 and Panama 8-1 on Saturday. at the Beggs Festival. Cortney Glass (5-0) and Shannon Barnett (2-0) were the winning pitchers in Saturday’s action.

Glass struck out 10 Berryhill batters and she also drove in a run. In the win over Panama, Caitlin Dry had two doubles and two RBIs,while Glass drove in two more runs. Lindsey Hammer had a double and a single, while Kara Linch had two singles.

Sequoyah plays at 4 p.m. Monday at home against Sallisaw.
