SWC 71, BC (M) 67 – A late jumper with 11 seconds left broke a tie as the Southwestern College Moundbuilders outlasted the Bacone Warriors on Monday in Winfield, Kan.
Tied 67-67 Southwestern’s Michael Morales connected to put the Moundbuilders up 69-67. The Warriors would turn the ball over on the ensuing inbounds play then foul which allowed Southwestern to knock down a pair of free throws to put the final nails in the coffin.
For the game the Warriors hit 43 percent (25 of 58), five of 17 three-point attempts and committed 11 turnovers.
Christian Smith paced Bacone with 18 points and eight rebounds; Kwame Bates chipped in 15.
CSC (M) 77, ABC 61 – Trailing 35-33 at the intermission, the Connors State Cowboys turned up the defensive intensity on Arkansas Baptist, holding the Buffaloes to 26 points the final 20 minutes, en route to a 77-61 victory Monday night.
The victory keeps the Cowboys unbeaten at 5-0 and will return home at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Bacone College JV.
Sophomore Devante Moore scored a season high 19 points to lead two other players in double figure scoring. Denell Henderson poured home 14 points and Craig Hill added another 13 in the win.
UALR 73, TU (W) 64 – Three players scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as Tulsa dropped a decision to UALR on Monday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa. TU fell to 0-2 on the season, while UALR moved to 1-0 overall.
Taleya Mayberry had a team-leading 22 points for the Golden Hurricane, while Tiffani Couisnard had her sixth career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Loren McDaniel scored 12 points. TU shot just 33-percent from the field, eight-percent from behind the arc, but went 23-for-30 from the free throw line for 76-percent.
