NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Taleya Mayberry set a new career high with 33 points, but it wasn’t enough as Tulsa dropped a 73-69 decision to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday afternoon at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas. TU fell to 4-8 on the season, while SFA moved to 5-6 overall.
Mayberry led the field with 33 points, while Kelsee Grovey added 10 points and Tiffani Couisnard and Loren McDaniel each scored eight. McDaniel pulled down a team-best 15 rebounds and had two blocks, while Couisnard added 10 boards and three steals.
TU shot 36-percent from the field, but was just 16-percent (2-of-12) from three-point range, and went 15-of-22 from the charity stripe for 68-percent. The Hurricane scored 34 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers and 14 points on a fast break.
Tulsa returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday against Langston at the Reynolds Center.
