Azalea Parade and Chili Cook Off

Three-year-old Jonathan Wiedel of Muskogee apparently stopped being scared of clowns at Muskogee’s Azalea Parade on Saturday morning.

He hid behind his mother’s legs when one red-nosed clown in a brown suit came up, selling kisses. However, after watching bands, floats, drill teams and goofy Shriner cars pass by him on Broadway, he managed to even shake the hand of another clown.

Kids of all ages found all sorts of delights at the 43rd annual Muskogee Azalea Parade, which passed through downtown Muskogee Saturday.

The parade, “Blooms, Butterflies and Beauties,” featured more than 54 entries and attracted between 7,000 and 10,000 viewers, said Joel Everett, special events coordinator for Muskogee Parks and Recreation. People sat on truck beds, even on car roofs to get the best look at the parade.
